2012 – Souleymane Cisse
Malaian director Souleymane Cisse (born 1940) studied filmmaking in Moscow.
He is well known for his documentaries and features films which depict faithfully the cultural heritage, problems and aspirations of Africa people. Ciss’s feature Films shot in mali are made in Bambara language. He has received numerous awards at African and international film festivals for his works which include Den Musco (The young girl 1974), Baara (work 1978), Finye (The Wind 1982) Yeelen (Brightness 1987).
