Chief Minister inaugurates the 23rd IFFK
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurates the 23rd edition of International Film Festival of Kerala.
“Festivals are the main medium to promote secular ideas as well a means to sustain humanity. IFFK is a proof of this propagation. Kerala didn’t give up in the catastrophic setting of unexpected flood; this year’s festival is the testament of the solidarity of the cinema lovers”, said Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan as he inaugurated the fete yesterday in the ceremony at the Nishagandhi, in the capital city.
The ceremony was presided over by A K Balan, Minister for Law, Cultural Affairs, Parliamentary affairs, Scheduled Tribes and Scheduled Caste Development. He opined that this year’s IFFK is an evidence of the resurrection of art. Bengali filmmaker Buddhadeb Dasgupta was the chief guest, and actress and filmmaker Nandita Das was the guest of honor of the ceremony. Acclaimed Iranian filmmaker and jury chairman Majid Majidi received the Lifetime Achievement award at the event from the Chief Minister.
Minister Kadakampally Surendran launched the Festival Handbook by handing it over to V K Prasanth, Mayor. Followed by the launch he said, “Eventhough we overcame the disaster, the repercussions are still following us and rebuilding remains a challenge”.
“Our festival is a culmination and coming together of the intelligentsia who not only read, think but also love films”, he added. Thiruvananthapuram Corporation Mayor V K prasanth felicitated the gathering. Buddhadeb Dasgupta handed over Sameeksha, film magazine’s festival issue of Kerala State Chalachithra Academy to Nandita Das.
KTDC Chairman M Vijayakumar inaugurated the Festival Bulletin by handing over to Oscar Award winner Resul Pookutty . Following the ceremony, the opening film, ‘Everybody Knows’ directed by Iranian filmmaker Asghar Farhadi, was screened.
Rani George IAS , Chalachithra Academy Chairman Kamal, Vice Chairperson and artistic director Bina paul were also present in the ceremony.
