Camille Claudel

Director : Bruno Nuytten / France / 175 mins
Synopsis : The film is all about the troubled life of French sculptor Camille Claudel and her stormy relationship with legendary sculptor Auguste Rodin. Camille who studies sculpture in Paris in the late 1880s, shows her first works to Rodin. Impressed by her talent, Rodin helps her overcome prejudices against female artists. The development of their intense romantic bond also coincides with the rise of Claudel’s career, when both artists answer one another with their creations. Their romance soon turns sour, as she gets furious for Rodin not leaving his wife for her. This, combined with her doubts about the value of her work, drive Claudel into an emotional turmoil that threatens to become insanity. The tormented relationship of Camille Claudel and Auguste Rodin clearly raises the question whether love can survive professional rivalry.
