The film Take Off is about human survival; survival from external and eternal crises. Although the film portrays the struggle for survival and escape from a war torn country, it also underpins the quest for meaningful existence of human beings amidst adverse circumstances. Initially the film was envisaged as a story about a divorced woman and her challenges when she gets pregnant in her second marriage. But later when I met Ms Mareena Jose, a survivor of 23 day hostage crisis in Iraq in 2014, I listened to their real life story of working and surviving in the most adverse circumstances of war. The nurses who chose to work in a war torn zone like Iraq decided so just because of their extremely difficult financial situations back home. Most of them who hails from small towns served best of their ability as para-medical force where basic infrastructure and normal working atmosphere were almost nil. And they worked shielding themselves from bombs, shells and missiles and frequent gunpoint threats. But do we really appreciate their heroic efforts back home? Do we earnestly stand by them who are known as one of the best para-medical forces in the world with competency and compassion? This struck a new idea into the original story and was developed into a script and thereon to the film.
